A Thought About Happiness

"Wise men through the ages have stated that we are only really happy when we are true to our deepest convictions. The joy and peace experienced when you refuse to bend before any master, witch doctor, trickster, or bully can only be understood by those brave enough to have done so."
-Robin J. Elliott

Do you think this is true? Is happiness all about living in congruence with our deepest convictions?

I think that the answer is complicated. Yes, we may be at peace with our decisions and happy that we had the fortitude to stick to our convictions, but that doesn't necessarily mean we will be outwardly or even inwardly happy. We may be persecuted for those convictions or a host of other inconveniences that may interfere with daily happiness. So, I guess my short answer is yes and no.

I suppose, if our convictions align with God's will.

We will only truly be happy when we are living in the centre of His will, living to give glory to Him.

I like what Moxymama said, I think it is complicated. Acting according to our convictions is part of what makes us happy but not the only part. Tammy, I feel similar to you. I personally feel the happiest, at peace, and the most content is those rare occasions when I feel fully submitted to God.
